Great North Builder's Supplies is 100% First Nation owned, and is operated by MDC Supply GP. Since 1978 Great North has been Moosonee's destination for lumber, building supplies, home interiors, flooring, hardware and expert customer service. Recently, the store has undergone an expansive renovation to better serve the local customers and to provide professional contractors as well as the local community with all the building supplies, tools and advice needed for every stage of a project or build.
We offer free estimates, DIY project packages, cabin packages, delivery, forklift rental and more. Browse our online catalog of 50,000 quality products some are available in our store others will be ordered with free shipment to our store. We specialize in custom orders, so if you can't find what you need, let us know and we'll do our best to get it for you. That means we'll source the world for you!

Moosonee, March 6, 2020 - The Mushkegowuk Development Corporation (MDC) is owned by multiple First Nations members of the Mushkegowuk Council in Northern Ontario. MDC Supply GP operates the new Great North Builder's Supplies retail store and serves the James Bay area. This Castle location, once part of the community for over 35 years, is coming back with enhanced vigor under new management and with an expanded product assortment to meet the increased consumer demand.
Even though the business was a long-standing fixture in the community, MDC Supply is looking to build on the legacy that founder Jack Hood left behind when he retired and closed the business in 2018.
“The acquisition of the former Great North Builders property is a great opportunity for our people to have access to needed products within the region”, says Grand Chief Jonathan Solomon. “It is also a regional economic initiative by the owner First Nations; who are members of Mushkegowuk Council, which is a plus.”
Wade Cachagee, President of MDC, said “MDC assessed economic leakage in our region, which then determined our priority areas for investments. We feel this acquisition and subsequent business operation will improve our regional economy by mitigating economic leakage, along with wealth and employment creation.”
The store has undergone an expansive renovation and is offering products and services to local and regional customers.

This original store opening announcement in the Moosetalk newspaper in May 1978 shows that Great North was originally owned in partnership by Jack Hood and Steve Wong. Steve then sold his share to Jack who retired in 2018. Jack then sold the business in 2019 to Mushkegowuk Development Corporation (MDC)
